Dear Aunty Vickey,
Firstly I would like to say that I am sorry it has taken me so long to write this to you.
Sadly quite a few months ago we had to part ways with you.
This letter has been sitting on my computer since then, but it just never said or conveyed what I wanted it to. It’s been written and re-written, and still what it says does not match how we feel in our hearts about you.
Most of us have only known you for just shy of three years, when you started at Family by Family as our Aboriginal Cultural Connector. In that time you have influenced us all for the better.
Aunty Vickey you have been a wonderful teacher and support to not only our families, but to our team members too.
You have made Family by Family a safe place for families to connect, and also provided space for families to learn about culture and the impact of our history on Aboriginal people today.
Whilst we will all miss working and sharing with you, Aunty Vickey, we know you have moved on to be involved in creating wider change in your new role at TACSI.
Thank you Aunty Vickey for sharing story, your knowledge and your great sense of humour with us all at Family by Family. We will miss your strength, your honesty and especially your hugs!
Thank you for making Family by Family a safe place for all families. Thank you for teaching us what reconciliation really looks like, and thank you for giving us your heart.
