From its pilot program back in 2010 in southern Adelaide, Family by Family has broadened beyond South Australia into New South Wales, with interest in the great results our families have been enjoying also changing the national conversation about how we’re shifting some of Australia’s big, stuck social problems. None of this would be possible, of course, without the great people who run Family by Family.
To keep Family by Family thriving across Australia, we depend on our behind-the-scenes people at our home base in South Australia.
Led by Dana Shen, our director, Karen Lewis (SA Operations Manager) and Rhonda Scotney (Allrounder) all make sure everything – and everyone – works beautifully.
At our Marion site we have our Family Coaches, Leanne Evans and Ciara Merrifield.
At our Playford site in Northern Adelaide, we have our Family Coaches, Emma Johnston and Emma Edwards, along with Vickey Charles our Aboriginal Community Connector.
At our Mount Druitt site we have Sara Johnston the NSW Operations Manager, Family Coach Angela Jones along with Mel Brown the NSW Allrounder.
I’ve been working alongside families, children and young people in Mount Druitt for over 10 years as a Family Worker.
I have loved seeing families become the best they can be through home visits, parenting groups, playgroups and support groups.
BUT it does take a community to raise a child – we cannot do it in isolation, focusing on each family in isolation.
I’m passionate about working with the whole family, enabling them to do more than just survive on a day-to-day basis, so the Family by Family motto of wanting all families to ‘thrive, not just survive’ is inspiring to me.
When not working I like to exercise, both at home and at the gym. I love the freedom of running and cycling. I enjoy spending time with my partner and my two children and my two grandchildren.
Together we can make a difference.
