We want to see all families thrive not just survive

So how do link ups happen?

Families choose what they want to change. There are lots of different changes families might want – getting along better, learning how to manage money, help with kids’ behaviour, becoming more involved in the community – these are just some of the changes families are looking for. A family that wants to change is called a Seeking Family.

Seeking Families choose a Sharing Family they want to link up with. Sharing Families have been through tough times themselves, and have made changes so they now live with more ups than downs. Sharing Families come in all shapes, sizes and cultures, but they have one thing in common – they want to help other families make changes so they too can live thriving lives.

The Seeking Family and the Sharing Family link up. They choose places to go, people to meet and things to talk about. Link ups start with families getting to know each other, chatting, sharing stories and doing fun stuff together. Then both families begin to work on the Seeking Family’s goals, encouraging, helping and celebrating the small wins that happen along the way.

Link ups can connect families to things like sporting clubs, voluntary work, coffee clubs, playgroups, local libraries and services. A link up lasts for 10 to 30 weeks, depending on the size of the goal defined by the Seeking Family.

Family by Family link ups are led by the families, but they don’t have to do it alone.

Our Family Coaches help match families, meet regularly with both families and keep the link up focused on change. Coaches also provide ideas, support and trouble-shooting when needed.
